State funding to help feed low-income seniors in Lee, Collier, Charlotte counties is back in play.
Thanks to last-minute maneuvering by Sen. Kathleen Passidomo and Senate Appropriations Chair Sen. Jack Latvala, a request for $400,000 in funding has been put into the state budget for 2,284 seniors.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott still has to approve funding by May 25. It’s part of the state’s $83 billion budget.
A story published Monday by The News-Press said the low-income seniors faced missing some meals as the food bank scrambled to find funding after cuts to a supplemental food program.
