Investigation into elder abuse cases shows most offenders only receive light sentences

BOSTON —5 Investigates pulled dozens of elder abuse cases from district courts all across the state and found almost nine times out of 10, caregivers convicted of crimes against the elderly served no time in jail.

Our investigation also showed 38 percent of those cases ended in a CWOF – continued without a finding – which means even though the defendants admitted guilt, their case would be dismissed and not show up as a conviction on their record if they successfully completed probation.
