As the opioid epidemic continues in South Florida, it has become increasingly important to build not only awareness of the crisis, but also actionable prevention methods for patients of all ages.

Senior adults often have many prescription medications as they manage the chronic conditions that come with age, and these full medicine cabinets present a unique challenge, both to themselves and their loved ones. The proper handling of potentially addictive prescription medication is more important than ever.

That's why Allied Against Opioid Abuse recently partnered with AARP Florida, the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Broward County, Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Florida and Humana to present an opioid safety workshop for Broward seniors in Coconut Creek. The event underscored many senior-specific risks associated with opioid abuse and featured speakers who noted the multitude of resources available to curb these risks.
