Seniors will be receiving a small Social Security COLA in 2017, but most won't even notice the slight change

Social security recipients will be receiving a boost in their monthly payments on Jan. 1, 2017.

Most will hardly notice the change, however.

Social Security benefits will increase by .3 percent in 2017, giving the average recipient an extra $5 a month.

More than 60 million retirees, disabled workers, spouses and children receive Social Security benefits, as do 4 million disabled veterans, 2.5 million federal retirees and survivors and 8 million who receive Supplemental Security Income, a disability program for the poor.
