Statement from American Senior Alliance regarding White House Budget Announcement

America’s seniors rely on what tomorrow’s treatments and cures can deliver – the hope of a longer and healthier future.

And this hope can only be a reality with the support and encouragement of our country’s leadership. Unfortunately, the recent budget proposed by the Biden Administration hurts our chances of ever seeing these potentially life-changing therapies become a reality. As an organization dedicated to serving the senior population, we feel the ramifications of this proposed budget would have a devastating impact on the health and well-being of our aging community, and we urge Congressional leaders to really examine what this will mean for Americans.

For many seniors, access to innovative treatments can mean the difference between a healthy, active lifestyle and one plagued by chronic pain, disability, and even death. These treatments are often the result of years of research and development, and they represent some of the most promising advances in medical science. Without adequate funding and support, however, many of these treatments may never make it to market, leaving seniors without the care they need to live their best lives.

We understand the intent of the Biden Administration – access and affordability are key, but expanding Medicare price controls is simply not the way to go about it. By supporting innovation and progress in medical science, we can ensure that seniors have access to the most advanced and effective treatments available, and by looking at actual cost drivers like questionable pharmacy benefit manager practices, we can achieve the intended cost savings that will truly help patients.

We urge Congress to question this proposal and not approve any ideas that would harm the development and availability of innovative treatments and instead work to support the research and development of new therapies that can improve the lives of our seniors.
