Mississippi Attorney General Fitch seeing an increase in fraud activity targeting seniors

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch said scammers are preying on older adults during the pandemic.

She said her office has seen an increase in fraudulent activity targeting senior citizens.

Fitch said scammers are preying on compassion and emotion to execute fear-driven schemes designed to con seniors out of cash.

"When that fear factor sets in, victims act immediately thinking that first, they need to pay this bill, need to make sure they're covered, need to purchase a fake cure for the coronavirus. and they're just spending an exorbitant amount of money," Fitch said.

Fitch said scams targeting seniors are nothing new, but with the pandemic, scammers have found a new angle to scare older adults into giving money.
